Recess App yorumlar

The new update makes me want to uninstall it

I really wish I didn't update the app to its new version: now it buzzes and rings at the beginning and end of the break and I cannot turn it off unless I pay $20 for the Pro version of the app. :-((. I wish the developer just asked for a donation instead. I'm no longer going to be recommending it and will probably be either uninstalling or not using it soon.

Use notification instead of pop-up dialog for 10 seconds countdown maybe better

It's a helpful app! Thank you. But it's very uncomfortable to be interrupted by a pop-up box when 10 seconds countdown. It’s a lot better to use notifications instead of pop-up dialog.

Love the Simplicity

I looked at a number of timer apps with all kinds of bells and whistles, which I don’t need. This one tells me when to stand and when to sit or when to start and when to stop. Perfect for what I need.

I would urge anyone who works on computer to get this

To save your body and your eyesight, breaks are crucial. But we ALL get caught up in work and lose track of time. This is a super simple, streamlined app. Just a simple timer. I only docked the 5th star because I wish it had options for the return to work bell. It IS in fact that old time recess is over sound. Pretty obnoxious and if you work with other people, liable to bug them too.

Good but with one small issue

When close the Macbook, the countdown will automatically cancle, even if i selected the “force break” option. Please consider to fix it and make it REAL FORCE BREAK. I love this App. Thank you so much! 很棒的应用,谢谢!

simple and easy

This app is so simple and easy to use. I like it.

Almost exactly what I need

Simple, does what it says on the tin, and is really a useful little tool. Two updates I’d really love to see that would get it to five stars: 1) Make it so the popover (which appears before the break) doesn’t take focus away from whatever application I’m working on, unless I click on it. As of now it’s pretty annoying at times. 2) Allow for two concurrent break schedules (one to just rest your eyes, another to take a proper break), with different timers for each. Aside from that, perfect!

Lightweight, efficient

This is a good, lightweight app at reminding one to take a break. I say “lightweight” because one just sees its icon in the title bar, and at a glance one can see how long it is until the next break. My only complaint is that when it’s almost time to start a break, it warns the user of that 10 seconds before, and it steals my cursor focus. That does have the good effect of forcing me to notice that a break is coming. However, I can’t finish typing the sentence I’m typing without taking a hand off the keyboard to use the mouse to get the focus back onto the window I’m working in — that’s annoying. The user can change the length of time between breaks and the length of the break, but I wish the user could also change the time between the warning and the actual break from 10 seconds to, say, 30 seconds. I usually like to note (on my computer) that I’m taking a break and save my work before I get up. 10 seconds (less because I have to use the mouse to get focus back) is just barely time for that. But this is my favorite take-a-break app.

Does exactly what it’s meant to do

I had another app in the past and it was programmed to let me work for 50 minutes, then take a break for 10 minutes. Even that was too difficult a task for that app. I installed Recess about a month ago and it’s been working like a charm. No complaints here. This app does exactly what it’s meant to do.

Increases my productivity via relaxation

With this app I take a 3 minute break every 30 minutes. Every break I change me seating position, drink some water, and rest my eyes. This helps me refreshed and relaxed. In turn, I think I’m actually more productive. The app is great — it’s simple to use, not bloated with dumb features or microtransactions, and works as promised. Allows for great customization (duration, etc.) and the pause feature is 💯.

Simple, lightweight, does what it’s supposed to

We all know sitting is the new smoking. If you need a reminder to get up every so often, this app will do it (but it’s still up to you to actually pay attention to the reminder and MOVE!!!). This app is simple, lightweight, lives in my task bar and does what it is intended to do. I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I work remotely and am also a yoga teacher. My day is partially sedentary and partially active. During the sedentary periods, which can span 4-8 hours, I have Recess set to give me a 7 minute break after every 33 minutes of seated work. During my 7 minutes, I stretch, clean something, do a small domestic chore, pet my dog, whatever so long as I am not sitting. 7 minutes is actually a good amount of time. I was able to put all my laundry away and clean a few plates in 7 minutes. There is also research about how frequent breaks are necessary. This unstructured time is necessary for your mind to process. Think of the short breaks during the day as data defragging. Your mind will be better structured and run more effeciently with frequent breaks without work.

Ok, Ok, I’ll finally leave a review, you deserve it.

So here’s the deal. I’ve used Recess for quite a while now. It is an INTEGRAL part of my day. I have some back problems because of an injury years ago and this app is a lifesaver in helping to remind me to move around. I have an Autonomous motorized desk and I raise and lower it ever 30 min or so. This keeps me moving and not sedentary which is huge for my health and well-being. It is the simplest of apps and it works perfectly. There is absolutely nothing that I would change about it. As a UX designer, I don’t say that about a lot of things. This is a simple app that solves a problem perfectly and I highly recommend it.

Great!

Simple, and works well. The only think I would prefer, which would make it less simple, is 2 timers for breaks. 1 timer to look away from the computer &.1 timer to get up and do something for a few minutes.

Good app

Good app! Simple and efficient. One thing I would like to be added is “snooze” option: when Recess interrupts me at the moment when I cannot really stop what I am doing, it would be great is instead of pressing “Done” and basically skipping the whole cycle, I could say “just a minute” (or 5).

Just do what it should do.

As the title said, Just do what it should do. Simple and Good.

Free, works great, icon in menu bar updates to show relative time left

This app does what it needs to do. It's a great reminder to take a break every xx number of minutes. App works as it should, price is right (free!) I looked for an app like this after hearing abotu computer vision syndrom on a podcast. They reccomended that every 20 minutes, you look away for 20 seconds and blink 20 times. Having this app installed makes me realize just how quikcly 20 minutes goes by. Highly recommended!

Simple, Quiet, and Works

Of the apps that help enforce breaks, this is the bost one for me. It does descend quickly but I have found this is best. It gives you rest but it does not intrude on your thoughts. It simply says, quietly and forcefully, “take a break."

Easy to use; helpful

This has really helped me remember to stretch. Now my back pain flares up when I’ve been away from my computer because I don’t remember to stretch! :-) I love the clean interface as well.

Great Reminder for Taking Breaks

This app has really helped me to regularly take breaks. It’s also very simple- which is another thing I like about it. I’ve tried several other simlar apps, but think this one is the best overall due to its features, clean/simplified design, & ease of use.

Thanks!

The easiest way to control yourself against overworking. Very helpful app, easy to use….and still free!!!

great!

Thanks! It’s free, and it meets almost all of my needs.

Does what it’s supposed to do

I keep working through the ones that only give audio warnings ‘cause I’d often have sound turned off. This one is simple and effective. I’d like a “snooze” feature in case I’m in the middle of something I can’t stop immediately.

Very useful tool!

Very easy to use and has great benefits! I would take walk break but they wouldn’t be consistent but with this timer it makes the process 100x easier! Thanks guys!

good job.

Please add option to change the opacity of the overlay. I prefer no one can see my screen when I am on break.

Unlike FutureProof’s Awareness, this one works

I shouldn’t complain given that they’re free, and that’s much appreciated. But Awareness never seems to work, despite it’s dead simple design. Recess is the same, but DOES work. It’d be nice to be able to customize the sound played, but again, it’s free and it does 95% of what I was looking for, so thumbs up!

simple and just works

I’ve been using this for some time now. Its very useful, very stable and a must for people who spend lots of time on their computers

Great App

Very easy to use and very useful. Just great.

Too rigid in its workflow

I was hoping for more than this app provides. Here are my issues: First, it has no snooze function. The pause just leads to basically turning it off. Secondly, ihe break screen stops the hot corners of the mac. This means that I cannot turn on my screen saver (and hence lock my desktop at work) while the break is underway. As a result, I have to dismiss the break screen, at which time the counter begins counting down again. Also, I don't think that the UI is very well designed. The right-click menu does not bring up a context menu, you have to go through two layers of popups to quit or get to the preferences. Overall I am not happy with its functionality and the way it was designed. I'm uninstalling it after writing this review.

Works—so far, breaks are taken

Disclaimer: using it less than a week. I must say it works so far (I've only skipped the break once), and I like it overall. + Quick countdown before the break gives the time to prepare for context change so that you don't feel inerrupted and don't resort to skipping the break. + The absence of postpone functionality on the break screen is probably good. AFAICT postponing an already started break can easily become a reflex and render such software useless. + I like the green ‘Done’ button on the break screen so far. I imagine I'd be pressing it more often (which is bad) if it was instead a red ‘Stop the break’ or ‘Return to work’ button, for example. ‘Done’ frames the break positively, as an accomplishment, not as a break from being productive. + The bell ring sound at the break start is well-chosen. - UI appearance: Recess window looks slightly inconsistent with the rest of OS (green color, non-standard controls), status bar icon might be better with some polish, the ‘Done’ button padding on break screen is a bit uneven. This all doesn't cause inconveniences to me personally, but it did somewhat stain the first impression. I've tried some software to help me take breaks before, but eventually dropped it. I think Recess has the potential.
